The autograph on the frontispiece of
the book, "Plantation Memo", which was given to Whitfield
Jack, Jr. by Francois Mignon.
"We were sitting in Francois' living
room in almost total darkness, but with his bad eyesight, I doubt
if his signature would have been any different even written in
bright daylight. His hand was shaking slightly -- certainly in
part due to age -- but I'm also sure in part due to excitement.
It was a great moment for Francois and for me. He was very proud
of his book. For me, it was a chronicle of many years at Melrose
of which my family had been a part."
