Jack Jr.'s grandfather, Dr. Paul King Rand, (far right) with
Francois Mignon (far left) in Alexandria, Louisiana. In the center
are Dr. Rand's brother and sister, Harry and Lucille. Dr. Rand,
like Cammie Henry, was an avid gardener. He was a pioneer in
the accelerated propagation of camellias by grafting rather than
by the extremely slow methods of seeding and by rooting cuttings.
He was responsible for many of the beautiful camellias that grew
at Melrose. |
